University of Kaiserslautern (UNIKL), in Kaiserslautern, Germany consists of 10 departments offering 85 study programmes to around 12,000 students and has strong cooperation with the two top software engineering research institutes, The Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering and the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems. UNIKL is also part of the largest Software-clusters in Europe. Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is supporting the software cluster projects with funds up to 40 million for 5 years. Three leading computer science research centers (DFKI, Fraunhofer, FZI), TU Darmstadt, UNIKL, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the University of Saarland are bringing their expertise in the cluster. Besides, the largest German corporate software manufacturers (IDS Scheer AG, SAP AG and Software AG) are represented in the software cluster in addition to more than 350 small and medium sized companies from the corporate software sector.
